What is Mainty Studio's Art x Surf Retreat? A unique creative getaway combining daily oil painting classes, invigorating surf lessons, and immersive island experiences. Taking place from November 8 to 15, 2025 on the beautiful island of São Miguel in the Azores, this retreat is designed to boost your creativity, improve your surfing skills and reconnect you with nature.

Do I need to bring my own painting or surfing equipment? No need! All painting equipment will be provided for the lessons. Surfboards and wetsuits are included for the lessons. If you'd like to bring your own equipment, you're welcome to do so. For your free surfing sessions, equipment can be rented at the lodge for €25 to €35 per day.

What should I bring?

  • Comfortable clothes for painting that you don't mind getting stained!

  • Swimsuit (avoid lighter colors, as thermal baths can leave orange clay stains on the fabric) and a wetsuit if you want to bring your own.

  • Warm layers for cooler evenings

  • Raincoat and rain gear!

  • Sportswear for surfing or yoga

  • A reusable water bottle and sunscreen

  • Hiking or walking shoes for island tours

  • Optional: notebook, camera, waterproof bag

How to get there? Book a flight to Ponta Delgada Airport (PDL) on São Miguel Island. We provide airport transfers on arrival (Nov 8) and departure (Nov 15), so you'll be picked up from the moment you land.

How many people will be attending the retreat? To keep the experience intimate and personalized, we limit the group to a maximum of 16 people. This ensures meaningful connections and plenty of personal attention during the art and surf sessions.

Is this retreat suitable for solo travelers? Absolutely! Many of our guests come alone. It's a great opportunity to meet like-minded creatives, surfers, and adventurers. Roommate pairings will be carefully arranged to ensure a comfortable stay.

Will the retreat be held in French or another language? The retreat will be held primarily in French, but some sessions or tours may also be held in English and Portuguese depending on the group composition. Please let us know your preferred language when booking.

Cancellation Policy

Refund conditions

More than 8 weeks before the start of your stay :

  • 100% refund, less application/deposit fees

Between 4 and 8 weeks before the start of your stay :

  • 50% refund, less application/deposit fees

Less than 4 weeks before the start of your stay :

  • No refund will be given (0%)

Cancellation Procedure

You can cancel your reservation at any time, provided that:

  • Cancellation must be made by the person who made the payment.

  • The cancellation request must be communicated to us in writing.

  • The cancellation will take effect from the day we receive your written request.

Cancellation After the Start of Your Stay

Once your stay has begun, no full, partial, or unused refund will be given in the event of cancellation by you.

Cancellation by Us

In the unlikely event that we are unable to honor your reservation, we will refund 100% of your payment or offer you an alternative arrangement.

Important: We will not be responsible for transportation costs (flights, etc.) or other costs incurred outside of our package.
